Derrick and Karen’s Rustic Wedding Photos
Black Lamb Photography
Just over a month ago my second shooter, Heather, and I shot Derrick and Karen’s rustic wedding photos in Pakenham and Kanata, Ontario. Derrick grew up on a farm and he met Karen while they were both working on a farm. So, it was a perfect idea when they said that they wanted to have their wedding photos taken on the family farm. Before we did their portrait session, they did a “first look”.
This is my second time shooting a wedding first look (before the ceremony). Most couples still stick to the tradition of the bride and groom not seeing each other until the ceremony. However, I LOVE when couples choose to do a first look. It’s a nice way for them to see each other without hundreds of eyes all around. And it’s a good thing that they choose to do their portraits before their ceremony because it ended up raining after the ceremony. Btw, that’s their bean fields in the background of some of their portraits. Thanks to my second shooter, Heather, for getting the bird’s eye view photos of their first look.
It was meant to be
I must mention that after I shot their engagement session, I asked them how they had come across my photography services. Well I was surprised to hear that Karen was the very bride that I had initially turned down when I got her e-mail. When she first e-mailed me asking if I was available, I responded that I wasn’t available. I had a lot of weddings booked around the time of her wedding and I wanted a breather. I even gave her a list of available wedding photographers.
However, after sending the e-mail and then talking to my husband about it, he asked me why I didn’t take the booking. He said that I could figure out a way to make my schedule work. I then regretted turning down the job, but didn’t dare send an e-mail saying that I was now free. How weird would that look? Well, don’t you know her bridesmaid contacted a local photographer who wasn’t available for that date, but gave a list of photographers who were available for that date and I was one of them. Lucky for us that Karen contacted me again, we talked on the phone and clicked and then she booked. Awesome! It’s like we both got a second chance at working together. As Karen said, “It was meant to be.”
The Wedding Day
Derrick and Karen’s wedding day turned out beautifully. I loved shooting on the farm as well as all of the rustic touches at their wedding. It was a pleasure to work with them shooting their engagement photos (some on the family farm) and wedding photos.
