Butterfly Box Ottawa-Gatineau
This is a bit of a difficult topic to write about. I’m talking about the loss of a child–either through a miscarriage or when the child is young. There are so many grieving parents out there–many of whom we’re not aware that they’ve suffered the loss of a child. I don’t know why, but there’s a stigma about child loss. I guess it’s because it’s such a difficult topic that most people don’t want to talk about it. However, by ignoring it, the people who have experienced the loss of a child suffer in silence. That’s where butterfly boxes come into play. According to the Mom Friends’ website, the butterfly boxes have two lasting impacts:
- Ensure bereaved families are acknowledged and supported in their loss by the community.
- Grow awareness and address stigma around pregnancy and infant loss through public awareness building in card-writing and storytelling projects
Have you suffered from a miscarriage of the loss of a young child? Maybe you know of a close friend or family member who has. Chances are that you or they have probably suffered in silence. Reach out for some help and order a butterfly box. If you want to know more about Butterfly Boxes, go to Mom Friends‘ website.
How to Show Your Support In Other Ways
Perhaps you’ve never experienced infant loss, but know of someone who has. Maybe you want to help, but don’t know how to go about it. You can show your support by taking part in the Butterfly Run. You can either volunteer your time to help or you can run or walk in the race. Either way, you’re helping tremendously. They’ve tentatively set a date for the Ottawa-Gatineau butterfly run on Saturday October 13th, 2018. You can find more info on their website: www.butterflyrun.ca
