Gatineau Cake Smash Photography
One year baby cake smash | Gatineau Baby Photographers
I was so excited to do my daughter’s one year cake smash photo session. I put a lot of planning into the details. I don’t know why, but I associate the colour lilac/mauve with my daughter, so I wanted to incorporate it into my photo shoot. Thimble Cakes in Ottawa was very accommodating to my specific requests about the smash cake. I wanted the smash cake decorated with rosettes in butter cream icing. I also didn’t want any sugar in the cake or icing and I certainly didn’t want any artificial sweeteners. The exact wording in my e-mail to Wendy was,
“Are you able to do a chocolate cake with lilac coloured icing, but still sugar free? And by sugar free, what do you use to sweeten it? I want a natural sweetener—not any artificial sweeteners like sucralose, splenda, aspartame, saccharine or acesulfame potassium. I also do not want her eating fructose or corn sweeteners. I am sorry that I am so picky. I just don’t want my one year old eating that kind of stuff.”
That’s kind of a tall order, but Wendy at Thimble Cakes wrote back, “Not a problem at all to make that pretty cake. We use agave and xylitol. Both are all natural sweeteners. We don’t like artificial around here either!” Yay! I was happy to hear that they could do it and without sugar to boot! That totally made my day. I was so happy when I saw the smash cake. It was so beautiful.
I must admit that my daughter was really not into doing this cake smash photo shoot. She hated getting the icing on her. It took a little coaxing, but in the end she was ok with it.
If you’re interested in doing a cake smash photo session for your baby, I would love to hear from you. I shoot cake smash photo sessions in my home in L’Ange Gardien, QC (just east of Gatineau). You can check out more of my cake smash photography on my Little Lamb Photography website. You can also check out my daughter’s Two year old cake smash and her three year old cake smash photo shoots (her request for the 3 year cake smash–not what I normally do).
Update: This cake smash photo session was featured on Your Theme Party blog.
